An effective program will work to deter use, detect problems, and allow for appropriate corrective action. To protect against the negative impact of workplace drug and alcohol abuse, many businesses implement a Drug-Free program. An effective program must be carefully planned and developed.
Key Elements of an Effective Drug-Free Program
The following five key components are critical to the success of your drug-free workplace program:
1. Written Policy/Procedure Guide – This is the foundation of the organization's program. This written document will help ensure confidentially and prevent discrimination. This critical document lays the foundation for long-term success.
2. Employee Education - Our trained professional will utilize unmatched training materials to energize and educate your staff. We utilize comprehensive training course to prepare your employees to recognize substance use and abuse in the workplace. The course discusses problems associated with use and misuse of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. The benefits of wellness and prevention, the recognition of possible problems stemming from drug and alcohol use and proactive steps to help prevent substance abuse from compromising their safety and productivity
3. Supervisor Training – This is a comprehensive skill building session designed to empower supervisors with the knowledge necessary to recognize and deal with substance abuse at work. Your frontline implementers are the eyes, ears and body for the safety and health of your most important assets, your employees.
Various options are available to ensure that your training is both efficient and effective including:
• Onsite Training - this training session is customized to your company's policy and delivered at your designated facility. This training session is designed to educate your employees about the dangers of substance abuse. Unlike many trainers TMI has twelve different training program available.
• Train-the-Trainer - this training session prepares a member of your team to conduct the employee education and new-hire training. Participants are qualified to conduct training under our mentorship program. Training materials are customized for your company and includes ongoing support and assistance is available for 1 year; one price no hidden fees.
• Online Training - Our interactive training course is a great alternative to onsite training.
• Audio CD - this is an alternative method of training for the on-the-go workforce (employee only).
• Webinar - we conduct both employee education and supervisor training via webinar technology on a monthly basis, these session are open to all clients. These sessions are designed to accommodate employers with 10 or fewer students.
4. Drug Testing – This is intended to deter use, detect problems, and allow for appropriate corrective action.
5. Employee Assistance Plan – This provides action steps and resources for employees who are seeking help on their own, are referred by management, or test positive. We have a network of Substance Abuse Professionals to meet the needs of our clients.
